Liturgical Ministries

Sacristan

Sacristans are people who are knowledgeable, or willing to learn, local liturgical procedures, to set up and prepare for liturgical celebrations.

Ushers

Ushers are required at each Mass to greet parishioners, seat them when required and distribute the weekly bulletin. Ushers assist with collection and organize the gifts to be brought to the altar in the Offertory procession.

Proclamation

Their role is to proclaim the Word at each of the Masses.

Eucharistic

Eucharistic ministers share the bread, the cup and themselves with each person who approaches them. Effective Eucharistic ministers work hard to make the moment of communion an experience of full personal presence. These ministers are asked to come approximately twenty minutes before the Mass begins.

Appointments to this ministry are made by the Pastor.

Altar Servers

The ministry of Altar Servers is an integral part of the liturgy. Girls and boys are welcome to serve after receiving First Communion. Being an altar server enhances the spiritual growth of our youth, as well as developing self-confidence. Practices take place the first Saturday of the month from 10:00-11:00 am at the church.

Music Ministry

Music plays a large role in the liturgical services at St. Joseph's. Talented singers and musicians participate in one or more of the following choirs. The choirs at St. Joseph's have evolved over the last 20 years in participation and musical style, from traditional to folk and contemporary music. The choirs take turns for singing at special services like Easter and Christmas, and once in a while celebrate in song as a combined group. The choirs at St. Joseph's also entertain at fundraising events at the church, and at Christmas concerts. We welcome new members to any of the 4 choirs.

Decoration (Art and Environment)

Liturgical decorations are used to foster a mood, sometimes of festivity and at other times of penitence or anticipation of our liturgical seasons. This ministry requires the assistance of parish volunteers, particularly for the Paschal Triduum and at Christmas time.

Welcoming Committee

This committee sends new parishioners a welcoming letter on behalf of our parish community, as well as information regarding our programs. This is a new committee at Saint Joseph's with great potential for development.
