Social Justice Ministries

Social Justice Committee

The committee meets once a month to support the parish and its ministries in the area of Social Justice. This group plans for ongoing action and information sharing for our parishioners so that they can incorporate Social Justice into their lives.

Annual Bishop's Appeal

The Annual Bishop’s Appeal is a year-long fund raising effort to raise money for various diocesan and national and international charitable organizations. This effort needs volunteers from our parish, during the month of February, to stuff envelopes with the literature from the diocese and deliver them within the parish. If you can spare a little time in February, your help would be greatly appreciated for this very important cause.

Development and Peace

The Canadian organization for Development and Peace was formed in response to Canadian Bishops after the second Vatican Council encyclical of Pope Paul VI that stressed Development = Peace. Development and Peace is open to any Canadian Catholic. It looks at Third World conditions and tries to improve the lot of the poor and the outcast. It looks at group causes and aims education campaigns at these causes. Development and Peace is a year round organization with two major campaigns a year; the fall campaign and the Lenten spiritual almsgiving, under the umbrella of the ABA. The poor of the world are our sisters and brothers. We share with them common dreams of a good future for our families. As Christians, we should be doing our best to see our global family is treated with justice and dignity. Further information can be obtained through one of the parish contacts.

Inn from the Cold

Inn from the Cold is a church based ecumenical volunteer program to provide temporary overnight shelter for homeless people. For more information on this ministry, please click here.

St. Vincent de Paul

The St. Vincent de Paul Society has been active since 1996 in the parish. The Society is open to all Christians who wish to extend themselves in the service of the poor. It is a lay ministry with a strong emphasis on Christian spirituality. Typical activities include providing food hampers; securing and delivering furniture or clothing; occasionally providing financial assistance after assessment of the request.
